The ISO name is taken from ISO 9660, used with CD ROM media but it contain a UDF(ISO/IEC 13346) file system ( used for DVDs and Blu-ray Discs). Most of the operating systems like Unix, Linux and Mac OS have built in capability to mount an ISO.

To create ISO file from local files and folders, please follow the steps,

  • Run PowerISO.

  • An empty compilation will be created automatically. By default, the compilation will include iso9660 and joliet file system. If you want to create a DVD ISO file, you can click on the 'New' button on toolbar or choose the 'File > New > Data CD / DVD Image' menu, then select 'UDF DVD'. You can also change the media type by clicking the media type area in the right bottom of the window.

  • Add all files needed to the compilation and make necessary modification to the compilation.

Click the menu 'Action > New Folder' to create a new folder.

Click the menu 'Action > Change Label' to change the default label.

Click the menu 'Action > Boot > Add boot information.' to add boot information file to the compilation, thus can create bootable iso file.

Click the menu 'File > Properties' to update the iso file properties.

  • After you have made all necessary modification to the compilation, You can save the compilation to an ISO file. Click on the 'Save' button on toolbar, or choose the 'File > Save' menu.

  • The 'Save file' dialog will popup. Enter the iso file path name, and select the output format to 'Standard ISO Images (*.iso)' format, then click 'Save'.

  • PowerISO will start creating iso file. It will show the progress information during writing iso file. After the operation completes successfully, PowerISO will automatically open the new created iso file.
